Entry Level MIG/TIG Welder

A MIG/TIG Welder is responsible for performing welding operations using the MIG and TIG welding processes. They work with various metals, such as steel, aluminium, stainless steel, or copper to join and fabricate metal components. MIG welding play a crucial role in the manufacturing, construction, and repair industries, by ensuring the structural integrity and quality of welded products; while TIG welding plays an important role by utilizing high-quality, precise welding techniques to create strong, clean welds with minimal heat distortion.

Responsibilities
  • Read and interpret blueprints and specifications to determine welding requirements.

  • Set up welding equipment depending on what is being worked on - including selecting the appropriate welding machine, wire, tungsten, electrode, and/or shielding gas.

  • Clean, prepare, and preheat workpieces to ensure proper fusion and adhesion.

  • Position and secure workpieces using clamps, fixtures, or other holding devices.

  • Operate the welding machine to perform welding operations.

  • Monitor welding parameters, such as voltage, amperage, and travel speed, to maintain quality and consistency.

  • Read and interpret work orders, drawings, or instructions to determine material requirements and fit-up procedures.

  • Cut, shape, or trim metal components using shears, saws, plasma cutters, or other tools to achieve proper dimensions and fit.

  • Align and fit workpieces together, using jigs, clamps, or other holding devices, to achieve precise alignment and joint configurations.

  • Adhere to safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during all welding operations.

  • Follow welding codes, standards, and regulations to ensure compliance with industry and safety guidelines.

  • Identify and report any safety hazards, near misses, or accidents to supervisors or safety personnel.

  • Participate in safety training programs and contribute to maintaining a safe working environment.

Qualifications and Skills
  • 6 months or more of MIG and/or TIG welding experience including time spent in school

  • Familiarity in MIG and/or TIG welding techniques and equipment operation.

  • Familiarity with blueprints, engineering drawings, or welding symbols.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to learn new skills, abilities, and techniques.

  • Physical stamina and dexterity to work in various positions and environments.

  • Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.

  • Ability to follow directions.
