Metal Plater
A Metal Plater, also known as a Plating Technician or Metal Finisher, is responsible for applying protective or decorative coatings to metal surfaces. They work in manufacturing or metal fabrication facilities and play a crucial role in enhancing the appearance, durability, and corrosion resistance of metal products. Metal Platers use various plating techniques and equipment to achieve desired finishes and meet customer specifications.
Responsibilities

Clean and prepare metal surfaces for plating, including removing dirt, rust, oils, or contaminants through cleaning, polishing, or chemical treatments.

Inspect surfaces for defects, imperfections, or areas that require repair or rework.

Mask or cover specific areas of the metal object to prevent plating in unwanted areas.

Select appropriate plating materials, chemicals, and techniques based on the type of metal and desired finish.

Operate plating equipment, such as tanks, racks, and power supplies, to apply coatings evenly and consistently.

Follow plating specifications and process parameters to ensure proper adhesion and thickness of the plating layer.

Monitor plating process variables, such as temperature, voltage, current, and immersion time, to maintain quality standards.

Follow safety guidelines and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect against chemical exposure and hazards.

Handle and dispose of plating chemicals and waste materials in accordance with environmental regulations and company policies.

Adhere to all applicable health, safety, and environmental standards and regulations.

Clean, maintain, and calibrate plating equipment and tools to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.

Report equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the appropriate personnel for repairs or adjustments.
Qualifications and Skills

Previous experience in metal plating or a related field is preferred.

Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.

Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot plating issues.

Physical stamina and the ability to stand for extended periods and lift or move heavy objects.
