EDM Operator
The EDM Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining electrical discharge machines (EDM) to manufacture precision metal parts according to engineering specifications. This role involves interpreting blueprints, programming EDM machines, performing quality checks, and ensuring efficient production while maintaining safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities

Set up and operate EDM machines (Wire EDM, Sinker EDM, or Hole-Drilling EDM) according to job specifications.

Load workpieces, electrodes, and wire as required for machining operations.

Adjust machine settings, including voltage, amperage, and feed rate, to achieve precise cuts.

Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to optimize machining processes.

Interpret blueprints, CAD/CAM files, and engineering drawings to program EDM machines.

Create and modify EDM programs using G-code or manufacturer-specific software.

Diagnose and troubleshoot machine errors, tool wear, and surface finish issues.

Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of EDM equipment to ensure peak performance.

Conduct first-piece, in-process, and final inspections using precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, CMM, etc.).

Ensure finished parts meet required tolerances and surface finishes per engineering specifications.

Document and report any non-conformance issues and collaborate with quality control teams.

Follow all workplace safety guidelines, including proper handling of dielectric fluids and electrical components.

Maintain a clean and organized workspace to prevent contamination and ensure efficiency.

Adhere to company policies, procedures, and industry regulations for EDM machining.
Qualifications and Skills

Education: High school diploma or GED required; technical certification in machining, CNC programming, or EDM operations preferred.

Experience: Minimum 1-3 years of experience operating EDM machines in a manufacturing setting.

Technical Skills:

Proficiency in EDM machine operation, setup, and programming.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.

Experience with CAD/CAM software and G-code programming is a plus.

Strong understanding of machining tolerances, materials, and surface finish requirements.
